Student Run Meat Goat Herd

About Us

Over the last five years, the Goat Group has evolved from an experimental project consisting of low percentage Boers to a primarily Purebred doe herd. Our foundation does were purchased from Cablecroft Farm, with subsequent bucks leased and purchased from various sources, most recently incorporating the genetics of Bethlehem Boer Goats in Connecticut. We have also purchased semen from BIO-Genics to begin an Artificial Insemination program starting with our 2006 breeding season. We are hoping to incorporate AI more substantially into our 2007 Breeding program.

Through continual improvement in the quality of our goats, the group has seen a steady increase in demand for our goats as slaughter kids, pets, show prospects, and breeding stock. All decisions are made as a group, with officers elected to focus on specific aspects of meat goat production and marketing.

With ongoing expansion of the housing facilities for the goats, we look to increase our herd size, decrease our kidding interval, and select more intensively for traits such as mothering ability, productivity, and parasite resistance, while continuing to increase the overall percentage of Boer blood in our does.

Thank you for your support and we welcome any inquiries about our program and our animals.
